What to Wear With Loafers (for any Occasion)

what to wear with loafers

When it comes to shoes that seamlessly blend both style and versatility, loafers are a top contender and an absolute must-have in my wardrobe. Whether you’re heading out for a casual brunch, a day at the office, or a dinner date, loafers offer a polished yet relaxed look that works for a range of occasions.

From wide leg jeans to casual shorts and chic mini skirts, loafers make the cutest finishing touch to a handful of outfits. Pair them with a blazer and tailored trousers for a sophisticated work look, or style them with linen shorts for a fun daytime ensemble.

Loafers are also the perfect shoe for those days when you need to transition from day to night, so don’t be afraid to mix things up by wearing them with different pieces. I put together a few of my favorite ideas below to give you some inspiration on what to wear with loafers. With these suggestions, you can create plenty of outfits for this season and beyond.

What to Wear With Loafers

Metallic Loafers With Straight Leg Jeans

Metallics are having a major moment right now, and I’m absolutely loving these silver loafers paired with a simple pair of straight leg denim. In my opinion, you can never go wrong by mixing a trendy piece and a more timeless pick, so this combo just does it for me.

Add a fun pop of color on top with this pink smocked poplin blouse and these textured silver earrings. Then, polish off your look with a mini black leather bag and a chic pair of sunglasses—both accessories are as practical as they are chic. I’d wear this to brunch with friends or to a coffee meeting.

Loafers With Linen Shorts

Who said sandals are the only shoes you can wear in the warmer weather? This look is such a perfect way to incorporate loafers into your summer wardrobe. We all know I love linen shorts, but what I really love are these slingback loafers paired with some white linen shorts. Something about this duo just gives off a relaxed coastal vibe.

Style the shorts with this striped strapless top and layer on a lighter weight knit cardigan for those chilly mornings and nights. Finish off the look with a chic pair of oval tortoise sunglasses and a chunky gold necklace.

Loafers With Black Denim

If you’re looking for a good way to elevate an all-black outfit, I’d totally start with these chunky black loafers. Not only would they be so cute styled with some baggy or even barrel jeans, but you’d also get plenty of wear out of having a pair of loafers like these in your wardrobe.

This bodysuit makes for such a great go-to top, and the tie straps make it a cute step up from your basic black tank. Throw on a leather belt and tie the gold buckle back to these knotted gold earrings. Craving a little hint of color? Consider adding a bright bag, like this mini red shoulder bag (which is the ideal size for your daily essentials). This loafer outfit idea is another good day-to-night option!

Chunky Loafers With a Denim Skirt

A pair of chunky loafers styled with dainty socks is the ultimate “cool girl” look in my book. How cute would these chunky brown loafers be with this denim mini skirt? The gold buttons on this skirt add such fun detail and make it perfect for incorporating some other gold accessories, like this layered gold chain necklace and this mini ivory and gold shoulder bag. On top, I would wear an off-shoulder long sleeve, which offers a subtle yet sexy vibe that’s ideal for a date night.

Pink Loafers With White Denim

I couldn’t resist adding these light pink loafers into the mix (but don’t worry, they also come in so many other good colors if pink isn’t your thing). I absolutely love this shade of light pink styled with these white wide leg jeans, but if you’re not afraid of a little more color, they would also be cute paired with this olive green pair of cargos.

This crochet cropped sweater vest is such a good staple to have on hand (for any outfit), but it just so happens to make the ideal addition to this specific look. Add a pair of cat eye sunglasses, a rose gold tote bag, and a simple pair of gold hoop earrings to complete this outfit and be ready for a day out on the town.
