I know it’s technically summer still (the first day of fall isn’t until September 22!) but I honestly can’t wait to switch up my outfits and refresh my wardrobe. Dressing for the fall season has always been my favorite — cozy sweaters, sweatpants, and booties just hit different.
Although the crazy travel schedule that comes along with summer is over, I still have quite a few trips coming up in the next couple of months.
One thing I’m big on is making sure I have a good variety of comfy travel outfits so I can make sure my travel experience is as good as possible. There’s just no way you’re ever getting me to wear jeans in the airport.
I recently did a post on summer travel outfits that you guys seemed to find helpful, so in the case that you also have some upcoming getaways planned, I thought I’d round up some of my favorite fall travel outfit ideas.
These are all closet staples that I personally love and that I find that I reach for regularly. These pieces can all be worn for different occasions and they can actually work for various seasons depending on how you layer things.
Without further ado, here’s exactly what I would wear to the airport throughout the cooler months.
Fall Travel Outfit Ideas
When figuring out what to wear to the airport, the most important factor in my opinion will always be comfort. However, going with a cozy look doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice style.
I tend to reach for sweater and sweatpant sets that are high-quality (this will help them hold up well after being washed). Another go-to is a simple cardigan or a basic t-shirt paired with leggings. Bonus: You can easily match any of these tops or hoodies with other pieces in your suitcase.

Fall Travel Shoes
Comfortable shoes are another non-negotiable when traveling. I like to pick shoes that I know I can rewear with multiple outfits that I packed for a trip. Plus, shoes take up so much space in luggage so I think it’s smart to wear your bulkiest pair on the day you travel.
These four picks are always in rotation during the fall (whether I’m traveling or not!)

I know that packing efficiently can feel nearly impossible, but after years of traveling regularly, I’ve finally nailed down a smart method.
The key is to utilize packing cubes, jewelry organizers, and makeup bags that allow you to get to most out of the space you have. Oh, and having a quality suitcase is also important! Here are a handful of travel accessories that I swear by, including the viral suitcase that everyone is talking about on TikTok (linked directly below).
