The Ultimate Baltimore Travel Guide

baltimore travel guide

In December, I was lucky enough to go on an amazing trip to see the ultimate queen of Christmas (Mariah Carey!!) in concert in Baltimore. I grabbed one of my best gal friends and we headed to to the city for the concert. I have to admit, attending this event may have been one of the best nights of my life—talk about a check mark on the bucket list!

Although Mariah stole the show, this girls weekend was so much more than just the concert. From staying at the perfect hotel and enjoying s’mores around the fire pits to shopping and taking in the festive decor, this was the ideal getaway.

After an incredible weekend, I was able to gather some of my favorite places in the local area. If you’re looking for the best places to eat in Baltimore, the best hotel for your next vacation (or staycation), or what to do in Baltimore, this travel guide is for you.

Where to Stay in Baltimore, Maryland

We stayed at the Four Seasons during our time in Baltimore and I would go back in a heartbeat. From the moment you walked into the lobby, you were wowed by festive decorations which made the holidays come to life. It was so cozy and welcoming, and I’m confident that it would feel that way long after the winter season.

Once I got into my room I had no words—it was stunning (I wouldn’t expect anything less from a Four Seasons.) In my opinion, it’s one of the best properties in all of Baltimore. Not only was the room super spacious but the views were incredible. I could see the city’s skyline and could even spot a festive holiday rink in the harbor.

As far as location goes, it’s positioned right along the waterfront so it’s perfect for a morning stroll (or a run if you are into that.) You can walk along miles of the harbor and experience some of the city’s most iconic landmarks. In addition, the hotel is just a short walk away from Fells Point, which has the cutest cobblestone streets, shops, and restaurants.

You simply cannot go wrong with the Four Seasons Hotel Baltimore—I already can’t wait to visit again.

What to do in Baltimore, Maryland

Although this was a quick getaway with my girlfriend (and the primary focus was the concert) there really is so much that Baltimore has to offer. I will definitely be coming back soon, whether it’s for another girls trip or for a weekend getaway with my family.

Here, I’m sharing a handful of fun activities to do in Baltimore—the great thing is there is something for everyone to enjoy.

National Aquarium

Although I didn’t get a chance to go on this trip, I definitely want to come back with the kids. The National Aquarium is one of Baltimore’s most iconic attractions. Known widely for the Blacktip Reef exhibit and rainforest exhibits, the aquarium is also easily accessible since it’s located within the Inner Harbor. This would be the perfect outing to do on a cold or rainy day.

Boat Rentals

As you could see from the stunning hotel room views, the Inner Harbor of Baltimore is an attraction of its own. Experience the skyline from the water and by boat. You can rent your own electric boat (this place is right by the Four Seasons) or opt for something more educational, like visiting the Historical Boats of Baltimore (a short activity that’s fun for kids and adults.)

Fells Point

Just a short walking distance from the Four Seasons Baltimore, Fells Point is where history meets fun and good food. The cute cobblestone streets are certainly charming, but they’re also rich with history.

The waterfront walkway in Fells Point is filled with lively bars, restaurants, and amazing spots to grab a fresh fish taco. There are also a handful of small businesses and shops that are fun to browse. Consider signing up for a ghost tour while you’re in the area!

Shopping

Let’s be honest, it wouldn’t be a girls trip without a little shopping. Some of my favorite shops, like Anthropologie and J. Crew were just outside of the hotel property (I seriously cannot praise this hotel enough! It had everything we needed all within walking distance.)

Festive Harbor Activities

Since we went in December, the entire city was fully decked out for the holidays. At our hotel, there was an intimate ice skating rink and cabana set to make s’mores by the fire place. These little details made the trip feel so special.

Getting out and exploring the city around the holidays can be so special and see all the beautiful decorations. Pro Tip: If you are headed somewhere cold (like Baltimore) be sure to stop by a hot chocolate cart before heading out to explore!

Oriole Park at Camden Yards

For the sports fans, Camden Yards, the home of the Baltimore Orioles is one of the most beautiful stadiums in the entire MLB. Even during the off season, you can get a behind the scenes tour of this stunning stadium.

Fun Fact: Eutaw Street is the street that runs between the stadium and the iconic Warehouse landmark. Be sure to walk down to see home runs that have been hit outside the stadium!

Baltimore Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium

Staying on trend with sports, I can’t leave out the Baltimore Ravens! If you’re visiting during football season, you can check out a game at M&T Bank Stadium. Outside of game day, M&T Bank Stadium also hosts watch parties, movie nights, and other fun activities. Be sure to check out their calendar of events to see if there’s something fun going on while you’re in town.

CFG Bank Arena

Last but certainly not least, I had to include the CFG Bank Arena—the concert hall where we saw Mariah Carey perform. The arena is newly renovated and is a great venue for a concert/event. I highly recommend planning your trip around a concert or another happening you’re interested in before heading to Baltimore!

Where to Eat in Baltimore

Four Seasons Hotel Baltimore

Nothing says girls trip quite like breakfast in bed, am I right? There are fantastic restaurants around the property, but after a night of singing “All I Want for Christmas is You” all I personally wanted was a cozy morning in bed. The hotel room service certainly did not disappoint!

La Scala

Italian food meets seafood heaven at La Scala (order the Lobster Regina for the ultimate proof of this.) The portion sizes are very generous and the seafood is really fresh. This is also a great place to stop for a glass of wine if you’re just looking for a quick drink.

Pro Tip: The restaurant is closed on Monday and Tuesday, so be sure to make your reservation accordingly to not miss out on some of the most savory dishes in Baltimore.

Thames Street Oyster House

You guys know I love to try oysters wherever I go. This is a must on your next trip to Baltimore. Thames Street Oyster House is located in Fells Point (which I talked about above), and will definitely by my go-to for truly authentic Maryland-style seafood. Be sure to order the Cast Iron Crab Cake—it’s to die for!

Ekiben

If you’re looking for a quick bite or a good lunch spot, try Ekiben. They make insanely tasty sandwiches that are packed with flavor. They have a lot of variety on their menu, including smaller side dishes like a pho spiced cheesesteak eggroll and shrimp snacks. Trust me, you’ll leave feeling totally satisfied.
